For this unusual St. Nicholas stocking, you only need to crochet 13 hexagonal granny squares, which are then joined together in a sock shape according to a specific pattern. The result is an unusual and reusable Christmas decoration!

If you want to use the stocking for filling and/or as a gift, it is best to line it with a nice fabric – you will, of course, also find the sewing instructions at the end of this pattern!

The hexagon motif, which I designed specifically for this crochet project, is also suitable for other crochet projects, such as bags, blankets, coasters, cushions, etc.

This crochet project is relatively easy, but joining the hexagonal granny squares requires a little practice and patience. Basic crochet knowledge (slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet) is required. It is probably not the right starter project for complete crochet beginners.

The detailed crochet pattern consists of 12 pages, including sewing instructions for the optional fabric lining and numerous color illustrations that describe and illustrate every step in detail.

Size/Dimensions/Weight: 

A finished St. Nicholas stocking is approximately 33 cm high and approx. 20 cm wide (at its widest point).

Materials required:

(Tip: The St. Nicholas stocking in this pattern can theoretically be crocheted with any yarn and a correspondingly appropriate hook size. However, I have not tested this myself, but have always only used the following materials)

• 3.0 mm crochet hook 
• approx. 60 g of cotton yarn (sport/fine) in colors of your choice (e.g., Catania by Schachenmayr, Capri by Katia,
  Limone by Schöller & Stahl)
• for a lined St. Nicholas stocking:
  •fabric scraps or a piece of fabric measuring approx. 48 x 35 cm
  •sewing machine
  •straight pins
